  • Braedan Jason has finished sixth in the men’s 100m butterfly S12.

Despite missing out on the medal, Jason’s time of 59.01 is PB and a new Australian record.

Our final race is the men’s 4x100m medley relay 34 points at 9.03pm AEST.

Carol Cooke is expected to remain in the Juntendo University Hospital in Japan for up to a week as she recovers after puncturing her left lung in a heavy crash during her road race T1-2 on ThursdaY.

The 60-year-old, who has multiple sclerosis, also sustained heavy bruising and grazes in the crash. Late on Thursday doctors in the hospital emergency room inserted a chest drain and have today (Friday) advised Cooke that her lung is resolving well.

“I can breathe normally and it doesn’t hurt,” said Cooke who remains in good spirits despite her injuries. “I’m battered and bruised but I have had so many messages from around the world - which is incredible.“

Chef de Mission of the Australian Paralympic Team, Kate McLoughlin, says Cooke will not be able to return with team to Australia next week.

“Unfortunately the nature of her injury means Carol will not be able to fly home with her team mates but we are working with team medical staff and relevant government agencies to coordinate her stay in Japan and her safe return to Australia,” said Ms McLoughlin.

Cooke this morning sent good luck messages to Paige Greco and Alistair Donohoe who were racing today and has also been in touch with South African Toni Mould, whom she coaches.

The men’s and women’s races started at different times but were on the course together when Australian Stuart Jones saw that Mould was struggling to continue and rode alongside her to encourage her through to the finish line.

“Toni messaged me from the airport and said ’your team mate did something for me today that I will never ever forget and I just wish we could have finished together,” said Cooke. “I’m so proud of Stu and of her because this is what the Paralympic Games is about.

“It’s not the medal - it’s the experience, not that we don’t strive to win a medal but the experience and support from other countries when things are not going well is so important and so incredible.”

It’s a valiant effort from the Aussie trio - but no medals as of yet.

Aussie cult hero Col Pearse has narrowly missed out on a medal, coming in fourth in the men’s 200m individual medley SM 10 with a time of 2:14.20.

In the final of the women’s 200m individual medley SM10, Jasmine Greenwood has come in fifth with a time of 2:31.06.

Keira Stephens has come in eighth with 2:37.76.

A lot of medal chances tonight as we head to the pool for the final time.

Cult hero Col Pearse is first up in the men’s 200m individual medley SM10 at 6pm AEST.

Then we have Jasmine Greenwood and Keira Stephens in the women’s 200m individual medley SM10 at 6.07pm AEST.

Two others to watch are Braedan Jason in the men’s 100m butterfly S12 at 7.53pm AEST and the men’s 4x100m medley relay 34 points at 9.03pm AEST - which is probably our best medal chance of them all.

From moments like Dylan Alcott’s touching embrace following his semi-final win over Dutch teenager Niels Vink to Thursday’s astonishing world record performance from long jumper Vanessa Low, the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics have been compelling.

Today on Please Explain, sports reporter Tom Decent joins Nathanael Cooper to look at Australia’s success at the Paralympics.

    Take a listen below.

If you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, our columnist Peter Fitzsimons has written a great piece on Paralympic runner Jaryd Clifford - who has struggled with finding a guide to keep up with him.

The runner who came last in the Olympics 1500m clocked 3 mins 38 seconds, just three seconds faster than Clifford’s best, so struggles to find someone to keep up with his pace.

His story is a great story and you can read Fitzy’s column about him here.

Australia’s BC3 pairs team has defeated Brazil 5-2 in the pool stage this afternoon.

The group of Jamieson Leeson, Spencer Cotie and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Daniel Michel will take on Hong Kong tonight at 7.05pm AEST.

Their win, and their defeat against Portugal this morning, should put them in a good spot to make their way into tomorrow’s semi-finals.

We are still sitting eighth on the medal tally, but two more golds would see us jump to sixth spot.

Hopefully we can snag a few more tonight.

The medal tally as it stands as of 4pm AEST.

The medal tally as it stands as of 4pm AEST.

After Daniel Michel’s incredible bronze medal win, I know we are all keen for some more boccia and now here it is.

The Australian pair’s BC3 team are up against Brazil at the moment. The match started at 3.25pm AEST.

It’s already been a great day for the team - made up of Jamieson Leeson, Spencer Cotie, and the great man himself Daniel Michel - who defeated Portugal 4-3 earlier today.
