Nick Haynes has gone forward and immediately made a difference taking a mark and kicking a goal to respond to Closeâs opener.
That was Haynesâ first goal since round one of 2019.
Cats lead 75-43 with 18 mins to go.
That should be it for the Giants as Close ran onto a loose ball and kicked a crumbing goal to push the lead back to 38 points just seconds into the final term.
You have to wonder whether the Giants have anything left in the tank.
Cats lead 75-37 with 19 mins to go.
Geelong made their move in the third quarter to push the lead to almost 40 points although Shane Mumfordâs goal after the siren has given the Giants a tiny sniff of a stunning comeback.
Mumfordâs mark and goal had the Giants hugging and screaming but for almost all that third term the Cats were on top.
Isaac Smith, Sam Menegola and others lifted and the Giants couldnât keep with them. The game is in the Catsâ hands heading into this last term and a preliminary final against Melbourne awaits the winner.

Menegola has been all over this match tonight and his snap for goal late in this term has pushed the lead out to almost 40 points heading into the last term.
Cats lead 69-31 with a minute until 3QT.
The Cats have turned their dominance of possession into another goal, this time they ran a chain of running handballs from outside 50m to the goal-line as Rohan kicked the major from point-blank range.
The Cats need to put the foot down here and not let the Giants have a sniff.
The Giants need to do something here or the season could be over.
Isaac Smith kicked a roving goal minutes later for the Cats to push the lead to 32 points.

The Cats have responded to Hillâs goal with Gary Rohan coming up with a mark and goal and Tom Hawkins has taken a deep forward mark and kicked the goal from the left side.
Could this be Geelong finally making their move? Time will tell.

GWS coach Leon Cameron spoke to Channel Seven at half-time...
Q: 15 points at halftime, whatâs the message?
I thought it was a really good start. Especially the first quarter. Last six or seven minutes we gave up two easy goals. I thought that was a really even quarter. We probably had the better of them but did not put it on the scoreboard so the game is alive, our boys are up to the challenge, huge third quarter for us.
Q: Inside 50s you are in front. One mark inside 50. Is there a lever you can pull there?
Probably not. We have to keep working away. We have three or four smalls that probably wonât mark the ball unless we get clear ball through the middle of the ground for so I think the pressure is good, 14 turnovers. Harry Himmelberg just starting to come in the game the last three or four minutes.
Bobby Hill hasnât played in the AFL for seven weeks but he has hit the ground running to start this second half leaping for a mark, chasing down the bouncing ball deep into the right pocket, picking it up and kicking the goal from a tight angle.
What a team lifter for the Giants.
Cats lead 38-29 with 18 mins to go in Q3.
