After picking up a silver in doubles, Dylan Alcott is aiming to win his second Paralympic gold medal in the quad singles when he takes on Sam Schroder from the Netherlands.

With the pressure on, Alcott breaks serve. He does it with a ripping drop shot with his first break point chance. It’s now 5-5 after about 40 minutes on court.

Dylan Alcott has held serve, forcing Dutchman Schröder to serve for the first set. The tension is rising.

The Netherlands are showing its dominance again in wheelchair tennis at the Paralympics, having excelled in the sport since Esther Vergeer dominated the game.

She retired in 2013 with seven Paralympic titles and a winning streak of 470 matches.

The Dutch won their first gold on Wednesday in quad doubles as Sam Schroder and Niels Vink defeated the Australian pair of Dylan Alcott and Heath Davidson.

They picked up a second on Friday in women’s singles when Diede de Groot defeated Yui Kamiji of Japan, 6-3, 7-6 (1).

Also on Friday in men’s doubles, the French pair of Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer defeated Britain’s Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid 7-5, 0-6, 7-6 (3).

In the final day of wheelchair tennis on Saturday, the Netherlands have finalists in all three gold-medal matches.

Dutchman Schröder now leads 5-3 and the momentum has swung big time. Alcott has won just one of the past six games.

A bit of an upset, as China’s Peicheng Deng takes the gold in 11.85 seconds.

Australia’s Turner didn’t have a great start and his fighting finish just fell short.

“I’m pretty shattered to be honest,” Turner told Channel Seven.

“I feel like I’ve let you all down. I’m really sorry about that.”

He effectively gave up 2-3 metres at the start, and finished 0.15 seconds behind Deng.

“It wasn’t the time I was looking for. I know I can run better than that.”

Australia’s James Turner is in the final of the men’s 100m (T36).

Not only is Turner among the favourites, but he also owns the world record (11.72 seconds, set in 2019).

Games are back on serve. The Dutchman has settled.

An early break of serve for Alcott! The veteran Aussie now has the momentum.

A genuine rivalry has developed between Dylan Alcott and Dutchman Sam Schröder.

21-year-old Schröder famously upset Alcott at last year’s US Open but the Australian exacted some revenge in the final at this year’s Australian Open, where he won yet another title.

Alcott also defeated Schröder in this year’s French Open and Wimbledon finals.
