If Medvedev doesn’t drop his level, or lose his composure, this is nearly done and dusted. Full credit to the world No.2 for coming to play. Medvedev has given up just five break point chances to the Serbian and, crucially, the world No.1 hasn’t been able to take one.
The match pushes on. Djokovic will serve first in the third set. Make no mistake, Djokovic is warrior who is more than capable and fully qualified to win in five sets, but will history say otherwise?
If Djokovic gets a chance like the fifth game of the second set to break (but wasn’t able to), he simply must take it. Otherwise his shot at history and immortality is gone.
Medvedev holds serve to take it!
The Russian leads 6-4, 6-4 after a touch over 90 minutes on court. Djokovic is at extreme risk of missing the grand slam with Medvedev in the box seat to win his first major.
As one of the ESPN commentators just noted, so aptly. “He (Djokovic) is running out of time.â€

Across the match the Russian has won a remarkable 87% of points on first set, that’s 26 from 30.
Djokovic is 0-5 on break point chances in the second set. It goes without saying but if Medvedev is strong enough to hold serve on nearly every occasion, he’ll be this year’s champion. Djokovic, really, can’t really on what he does in tiebreakers.
Djokovic holds. He’s hanging in, the Serbian. There was pressure again in that game but Djokovic was composed enough not to drop another game.

That break of serve came a little bit too easy.

That was a golden chance from Djokovic. For one of the only times in the match, Djokovic had a chance to break, but he couldn’t quite do it. A big, big game. Simply huge. It might prove to be the game of the match.
One missed break point chance prompted a vicious racquet smash from Djokovic. The world No.1 was unrelenting in smashing the racquet into the court. Then he simply walked to his seat to find a new one. His frustration is real and evident for all to see.
