Race-by-race preview and tips for Wyong on Friday
Selections based on good track; rail true
Race 1 4YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1350m)
We start cup day with the older maidens at set weights and, on the score of progression, four-year-old mare 10. Silver Scissors can break through second-up at her fourth start. Was very good late at Hawkesbury after striking significant traffic problems at key stages and draws to get a soft run off the speed.
Dangers: Promising four-year-old 4. Different Strokes is likely to go around a hot favourite and is the obvious threat. Has attacked the line in deeper races and top jockey sticks for his third start. Gap to the rest headed by 5. Stay Wealthy, who has been consistently forward at the trials and debuts in blinkers. Improving 8. Coppersonic goes in exotics.
How to play it: Silver Scissors to win and quinella 4 and 10; Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1200m)Tricky maiden. Seven months after failing on debut when heavily backed, promising filly 11. Ruinart resumes after a smart win in the second of two recent trials where she was given her head from the out the back and rounded them up in style. Drawn the widest but expecting her to be ridden cold and returns with gear changes.
Dangers: Loved the way Godolphin filly 9. Arbitration put a moderate lot to the sword under a good hold in a recent trial, and returning from a near seven-month break she looks way over the odds. Itâs taken a long time to get I Am Invincible five-year-old 1. Invincible Vision to the races, three years after he first won a home trial as a two-year-old. Should be tuned up for a big debut having won both lead-up trials, although was ridden out in the latest. Provincial filly 5. Flying Squad has been solid through the line in two recent runs and gets a soft draw over a bit more ground. Improving filly 7. Amathuba can peak at her third start down a little in class.
How to play it: Ruinart to win and Arbitration each way; Odds and Evens: Odds a special
Not much between a few of these but have plenty of time for talented Godolphin mare 7. Eleusa, who resumes off two progressive trials. Record early in her prep is smart for this grade and headed for bigger targets.
Dangers: Japanese-sired colt 3. Akhiro peaks to strike third-up with blinkers added. Has hit the line from well back in two runs this prep and drops back from tougher metro grade. Lightly raced four-year-old 4. Bojack has always shown potential and was solid enough resuming as favourite in a similar race. Has been given six weeks between runs via a forward trial. Resuming mare 6. Seduction Queen convincingly won the second of two trials.
How to play it: Eleusa to win and box exacta 3,4,7; Odds and Evens: Split
Another very testing and open affair over the mile. A challenge lining up progressive four-year-old mare 8. Ita, who jumps from a weak country class 1 to a rock-solid provincial 64, but her form is hard to resist. Was a certainty robbed, charging home first-up before trotting home by nearly six lengths at Bathurst, and should get enough speed on to settle back and finish over the top.
Dangers: If ever one is bursting to win itâs honest five-year-old 4. Chateaux Park, who has attacked the line impressively to beat all bar the winner in his last two but back in trip for a slightly stronger race. Well-travelled four-year-old 1. Nishikori has been given three weeks since boxing on OK in a class 3 at Eagle Farm after leading all the way in a weaker country race. Building a nice record and blinkers come off but a query carrying 59.5kg against some of these. Keep safe progressive colt 6. Akahata off a fighting first-up maiden win.
How to play it: Ita to win and box exacta 1,4,8; Odds and Evens: Evens
It doesnât get much easier in this, with several chances. Promising and resuming four-year-old 4. Deepour has had two trials, sitting midfield and quietly brushing home under his own steam in the latest. Hasnât raced for more than six months but on debut late last year destroyed a provincial maiden field.
Dangers: Keep safe four-year-old stallion 1. Torun, who resumes off two forward trials with gear changes. Must include local filly 9. Fumiko also first-up off a strong trial. Won easily on debut in early May. Got plenty of time for 3. Agrum, who comes through some handy form races since bolting in his maiden first-up but will need some luck from the draw.
How to play it: Deepour each way; Odds and Evens: Split
Feature sprint at Listed level stacks up nicely for progressive metropolitan mare 12. More Prophets, who can take the next step third-up. Has been well supported in two fast-finishing runs this prep, easily running over a BM 78 field in the latest. Gets down on the limit weight over more ground with the leading jockey sticking solid.
Dangers: High-class home track mare 3. Great News has the undoubted class but also a wide gate to overcome. Hit the line well resuming in a stronger metro G3 and looks well weighted carrying 2kg more considering sheâs never missed a place in 11 starts, winning five. In-form mare 5. Starla is also well placed and over the odds shooting for three straight wins after rattling home from midfield in consecutive metro BM 78 races. Smart mare 2. Charleise has had eight weeks since beating all but the winner in the listed Glasshouse in Qld and normally reacts when fresh. Big finisher with a strong record, although the inside draw around this track is a cause for concern. Include improving mare 10. Elizabeel in exotics.
How to play it: More Prophets to win; Odds and Evens: Split
Now the big one, and typically thereâs any number of chances. Smart six-year-old 10. Mubariz is perhaps the best weighted and most talented runner in the field. Drops back from two handy closing efforts in deeper Saturday grade and only needs cover from the tricky barrier to be in the finish on the limit weight.
Dangers: Tough seven-year-old 4. Laure Me In has built an impressive record. Has a 30 per cent winning strike rate from 39 starts but has rarely strung wins together. Came off a six-week break to win a weaker provincial race after consecutive strong closing runs at listed level. Naturally gets back and, like many around this track, will need plenty of breaks over the final 600m. Big finishing eight-year-old 5. Berdibek comes off an overdue win in the Listed Rowley Mile when he got all the gaps spearing home from well back. Tougher here and has to overcome a horror draw. Keep safe five-year-old 9. Criminal Code, who comes through the same formlines as the top selection. Include in exotics 15. Perfect Radiance, who shoots for three straight wins up in grade.
How to play it: Mubariz each way and trifecta 4,10/4,5,9,10,15/4,5,9,10,15; Odds and Evens: Split
Once flying Newcastle mare 4. Pearl Roan hits winning form she can be hard to pull back. Dominant from the front in a deeper grade race last time and back 100m on a tighter circuit can only suit.
Dangers: Tough seven-year-old 2. The Drake can peak third-up after working home in a similar race under the same weight. Keep safe provincial five-year-old 1. Mr Polar who draws well with a 3kg claim, and is hard fit.
How to play it: Pearl Roan to win; Odds and Evens: Evens
BEST BETS: Race 3: (7) ELEUSA; Race 8: (4) PEARL ROAN
BEST VALUE: Race 5: (4) DEEPOUR
