Queensland police investigate alleged drug offences after Walsh arrest
Queensland Police are investigating Reece Walsh for alleged drug offences after the Warriors rookie was arrested in Surfers Paradise overnight.
Walsh was issued a move on order by police just after midnight on Sunday morning before being spotted again by officers around 1am.
He was arrested and taken to Surfers Paradise police station.
The teenager was released with no charges, but police said in a statement they are investigating whether Walsh was involved in drug and public order offences.
âAt a quarter past midnight a 19-year-old man from Narang was issued a direction to move on from an area in Surfer Paradise,â a police spokeswoman said.
âThen at around 1am he had returned to the same area in an alleged contravention of the move on direction.
âAs a result, the man was arrested and taken to the Surfers Paradise Police Station and assisted police with their enquiries.
âHe was released a short time later and police are now investigating whether the man was involved in drug and public order offences. Investigations are continuing at the moment.â
Footage of Walsh being arrested has now surfaced and shows the star rookie speaking with two police officers before being placed in handcuffs.
Earlier in the night Sharks star Toby Rudolf uploaded a video of the pair singing along to Sweet Caroline before the night took a turn for the youngster.
The Warriors have put out a statement on the incident but said it was a matter for the NRL integrity unit.
âVodafone Warriors CEO Cameron George has confirmed fullback Reece Walsh was arrested following an incident on the Gold Coast last night,â the club statement read.
âHe said he had met Walsh this morning and had informed the NRL Integrity Unit.
âGeorge added while the matter is under investigation the club would not be making further comment until a later stage.â
Walsh is set to win the Dally M rookie of the year on Monday after being crowned RLPA rookie of the year last week.
