Vision unveiled for hundreds of home on Boltons former bus station site
A VISION has been presented which could transform Boltonâs former bus station site into more than 200 homes, including terraced streets and more than 100 flats.
The plans, which are being put before the public prior to a formal planning application, are for Moor Lane, Bolton, specifically the vacant former bus station site and two neighbouring smaller plots.
Developers Step Places, which is working in partnership with social housing provider Bolton At Home, say the plans are an âexciting opportunity to redevelop brownfield sites, ideally located to deliver new homes and facilities in the heart of our townâ.
The application site is in three separate parcels, over a total of 3.8 acres.
As well as the bus station area, accessed via Moor Lane, there is a site to the east of Black Horse Street and south of the existing job centre and another vacant site south of Cheadle Square.
The plans include 33 one and two-bedroom over-55 age friendly apartments with parking at the rear, 44 three-bedroom terraced houses with private gardens and 27 one and two-bedroom affordable rent apartments.
There will also be 104 one and two-bedroom apartments, with two three-bedroom duplexes, with concierge and gym facilities and three commercial units.
A spokesman for Step Places, said: âWe are mindful of the site location which is partially within the Town Hall conservation area.
âThat is why our proposals have been influenced by a heritage-led approach and are being sensitively-designed, by world-class architects.
âFor too long, older people are trapped in large family homes after children have moved out as there is no accommodation suitable for downsizing.
âOur plans will provide specially designed senior living apartments, creating a community of similarly-aged residents.
âThe terraced houses at the heart of our proposals will deliver much-needed family homes for Bolton, specifically for the town centre.
âWe know that many people are forced to move away from where they grew up as there arenât any suitable homes.
âThese new homes, with private gardens and parking spaces for all properties, will help people put down roots in Bolton.
âAs part of developing this new sustainable community in the heart of the town centre, we will be providing a mix of different tenure options.
âThis will include 34 older person apartments for affordable rent, 27 apartments for general needs affordable rent and 23 houses for shared ownership enabling customers to get on to the property ladder.â
Step Places officials say that as part of the development they would build enhanced pedestrian routes through the site, linking to the a new public open space.
The statement added: âStep Places with Bolton At Home are working together to deliver an ambitious, multi-million pound investment into Bolton, delivering the homes needed alongside new community facilities and open space for the benefit of prospective residents and the wider community.â
