We mentioned the situation around the Afghani para-athletes earlier - you can hear a little more below on that from former Socceroos captain Craig Foster, who these days is a pundit and analyst for Stan Sport, and who spoke earlier this morning on Nine’s Sports Sunday.
While we were firing up the blog a little while ago, there was another Australian medal win which deserves a mention.
WA’s Sarah Edmiston grabbed bronze in the women’s discus final with a throw of 37.85m - an Oceania record.
She finished behind two Chinese athletes, with Juan Yao (44.73m) winning gold and Yue Yang (40.48m) taking the silver.
Erik Horrie hasn’t got the gold medal he’s been longing for but the Australian has produced a terrific effort to win silver - his third in a row at the Paralympics.
There was no beating Ukraine’s Roman Polianskyi, who won in 9:48.78 minutes - a good 12 seconds ahead of Horrie.
But he did brilliantly there to surge across the back end of the 2000m to finish a couple of seconds in front of Brazil’s Rene Campos Pereira in a hot finish to that race.
We’re just a few minutes away from the men’s single sculls rowing final, where Australia’s Erik Horrie is a big chance of a medal.
The only colour he’ll be after is gold. The 41-year-old has been to the last two Paralympics and come home with silver each time.
Horrie was involved in a car accident when he was 21 years old which left him with paraplegia. He’s up at 12.10pm, so find yourself a screen.
In case you missed Tom’s report from this morning, two athletes from Afghanistan have arrived in Tokyo and will now compete at the Paralympics after evacuating Kabul and spending time in Paris.
The Afghanistan Paralympic Committee announced late on Saturday evening Tokyo time that Zakia Khudadadi and Hossain Rasouli had landed in Japan after fears Afghanistan would have no athletes at the Games given their country’s capital city, Kabul, has been take over by the Taliban.

Khudadadi is set to become the first female Paralympic representative from Afghanistan since 2004.

Back at the track and Madi de Rozario has comfortably won her heat in the women’s T53 800m event (wheelchair race) and will be hoping to make up for her disappointment in the 5000m, where she came fifth yesterday and admitted herself she executed a terrible race from a tactical perspective.

No doubt her coach Louise Savage would have given her some much-needed advice for her race today.
Her final is at 8.17pm AEST.
This morning’s swimming session has finished up. Here are your finalists for this evening:

Aussie Robyn Lambird has picked up third in the 100m T34 final at the track here. The race is for athletes who compete with a wheelchair.
Great Britain’s Hannah Cockroft has broken her own world record, hitting the line in a time of 16.39 seconds.
Lambird, who was born with cerebral palsy, finishes in 18.68 seconds.
Australia now has two silver and two bronze medals in athletics. I’ll make a small bet that Australia will win their first gold here today, courtesy of Isis Holt later in the 200m.
There was heartbreak this morning for Australian triathlete Lauren Parker, who had to settle for silver after an incredible late burst to the line from American Kendall Gretsch.
Coming into the final few hundred metres, Parker had a decent lead but Gretsch was able to motor to the finish line in wheelchair at real speed.

Incredibly, the American only took the lead in the final metre of the entire race and pipped Parker by a solitary second.
“I just put my head down and went for it. I knew she was coming,†Parker said.
“I did the best I could but got stuck behind one of the girls on that last U-turn (in the final event, the wheelchair race) and lost a few seconds there.
“I knew I had to pull my head down on that finish line. It wasn’t to be for the gold but I am proud of my silver.“
Parker was involved in a horror training accident on the bike that left her a paraplegic. She was on a training ride travelling at 40km/hr when both her tyres blew, catapulting her into a guard rail.
